Disturbing Thoughts…

Some things that have disturbed me lately:
1. Pre-packaged communion emblems. This is weird to me. The concept in and of itself is something that drags all the sentiment away. As if the concept wasn’t bad enough, the bread has the taste and texture of styrofoam.
2. Cheerleaders. Please do not try to ever tell me that cheerleading is a sport. That is the dumbest thing I have ever heard in my life. Are stunts hard? Yes. Do they take a lot of practice? Yes. Is it a sport? No. A sport requires you to make split-second decisions ( i.e., basketball, football, baseball, tennis, etc…). Cheerleading requires nothing remotely close to this. We went to the Decatur High basketball game the other night and the cheerleaders had signs. Great. I like a good sign just as much as the next guy. But the back of the signs had arrows on them. That’s right. The cheerleaders needed assistance to make sure the signs were right side up. Not a sport. It doesn’t matter what anyone says. And, cheerleaders don’t even lead cheers anymore. They just hoochie dance and flip around during timeouts. Not a sport. Though, I do wish I could flip like that.
3. Kids Don’t Like to Go Outside Anymore. Last week we had one of the prettiest days ever. Seriously. It was one of those kind of days where you just wanna go outside and stand there, because it’s too beautiful to be inside. I called all the kids in the youthgroup. Let’s do something; play ball, wrestle, fly kites… something. 3 out of 14 guys I called took me up on the offer. They just didn’t want to. 4 of my boys were too busy playing Halo. Now, I’m all for video games, don’t get me wrong. Me like the Mario Kart. But I would never have passed up a beautiful day for video games.
