There’s a new movie coming out called “The Strangers.” It’s a horror movie and it looks terrifying; folks in mask freak me out…
It’s supposed to be based on a true story, but it was hard to find anything on it. Anybody got the lowdown?
Here’s what I Have so far:
The murders happened at Keddie Resort, a small resort in hilly northern California. The date was April 11, 1981. It was discovered by Sheila Sharp, who had stayed overnight at a neighboring house. She returned to her holiday cabin to find 3 people killed. Her Mom Sue, brother John, 16, and his friend, Dana Wingate, 17, were murdered in the same fashion. Their hands and feet were tied, then they were stabbed and hammered. The entire cabin was splattered in blood.
Sheila Sharp’s 2 younger brothers and their friend were in a back bedroom and they were safe. Tina Sharp, a younger sister, was missing. There was damage to the walls and furniture but no one heard anything on that fateful night. The case grew cold due to lack of leads.
That quote block was taken from here.
And if you want the full blown story, complete with photos and newspaper clippings, you can find it here: Cabin 28.
Here’s a video that’s on topic:

yeah, maybe not the true story at all, it happened in 2004, and it was only 2 people, sooo yeah your stuiped
It was 2005 and there were 3 people in the movie killed… the two murdered by the 3 strangers and then an accidental killing of a friend
just so you know, it’s spelled “stupid”, stupid.
It all happened at 1801, Clark road, California. This whole story freaks me out.
i found out the “true” story behind this movie… if you look the strangers up on Wikepedia it says the inspiration to the movie… it was events from the directors childhood that made him create the idea… no oneby the character names was ever actually murdered…
You shouldn’t be calling anyone stupid if you can’t even spell it. And it was three people murdered. One of the murders was accidental.
It says on wikipedia that the movie is based on an event when the director was a child and someone came to his door asking for someone that didn’t live there and later heard that all the empty homes in his neighborhood had been robbed that nite. It was also loosely based on the manson murders and the Keddie Resort Cabin 28 murders.
No everyone else is wrong. This movie is really true. It happened a few years back, back in my home town. I was one of the Mormon boys that discovered the bodies. It started off one morning when I was riding my bike spreading the gospel around town. I rode my wheels by the house and saw 3 people chillin like villains on a sunday thrillin. They questioned me about the lord and then stole my pamphlets. Next thing I know I’m layin in a puddle of some hoe’s koolaid drip drippin all over my new kicks. I tapped the bitch and nothing happened at first. I questioned the koolaid, wasn’t sure if it was fruit punch or cherry, when my thoughts were interrupted by this hoe’s scream. I slapped her and told her to shut up so I can ponder the flavor over a little longer. That’s when she got up and the cops were called.
To this day I still deliver pamphlets all over southern california.
the end.
so…
was it strawbery or cherry?
freakin fags
The movie is fake. If you look at the entire credits, at the end you will see: “This story and its characters are entirely fictional. Any resemblance to real life events or people is purely coincidental”.
it’s horrifying to see people making fun of this when I lost my sister to these masked murderers in 2005 at the Clark Rd house. The movie added a lot of fiction but the basic facts are true. The names WERE changed.
This movie was totally rad! Liv Tyler is hot and a great broad to be in a horrer flick! I did some research and found out that the guy 2 places up from me is telling the truth! This movie is completly true and he is the jewish kid handing out the torrahs! The reason I know is because I am the other little jew handing out torrahs! It was totally unfortunaste to have to see a hotty like Liv Tyler die, but its all good because she didnt die untill the end.
which one of you is related to the “girl” that was murdered? what ive got, she was the only survivor. how else would we get the story of what happened that night. someone has to live to tell it.
Tons of Mormon missionaries around here, and they don’t get sent out until in their late or early 20’s . . . director should have done his homework. I thought the whole bit with the young boys felt very “fake” and distracted from the movie.
Also, I don’t think the movie ever stated that it was a true story: it simply said that it was based on “true events,” and finished the statement by saying that a large number of violent crimes occur every year (duh!). In other words, the movie was only based on “true events” in that violent crimes truly do happen. Just clever wording to make the movie feel more scary and impressive.
Oops, meant to say “late TEENS or early 20’s” . . . .
Ok, look, this movie DID happen, it was in Abbott, Texas.
The Killers were two Men and a women, Their names were never released to the public. There were two people that were murdered. Marryn Bretts and her husband, Aleks Bretts.
The Couple was newly married and they were going on their honey moon. They lived in Colorado, so they wanted o go somewhere completely different.
The Couple’s vacation was brutally interupted by the two men and the women.
Both the Brett’s lives were ended that night.
I, Aiken Jamenson, would know, I was there.
i survived.
Ok i love how one of you is a Mormon handing out pamphlets and the other is a Jew handing out pamphlets….you’re both geniuses, I’m sure. And it’s good to know a Mormon such as yourself uses such good language.
Aiken jamenson if you were the only one to survive dont u think the directors would of asked for your help while making the movie and 2 if you were there y not tell what really happened though a book or your own website you dont have proof you were u just tell people you were
I think that all those who are messing around, should stop it. If we are here it’s because we want to know what really happend and you’ll dont make it easier and are not answering any questions. I would love to know what is the real story. I just did see a web site where they talk about cabin28 and that does seem a little similar. But who knows. Aiken Jamenson, if you were really there, then why just say you where there. We would all love to see proof. A old news paper clip or something!!
Saw The Strangers yesterday, very frightening, but, thought that the film was dragged out. However, as the narration goes it was based on ”true event’s”, or inspired from, but, still a frightening flick all the same. BTW: when someone mispells a word the correct grammar is ’spelt & not spelled’. Yes the person who called the other person stupid should know how to spell the word, so whoever you are go back to school & learn English - fool!!
ha ha, what a douch bag!
there were like three bits in that movie that nearly crap my pants. especialy when she’s in the pantry. good suspence!
So, I think some of you guys are funny! Anyhoo, I would like to know what really happened too, I just saw the movie and it was pretty creepy. I saw the website where they talk about cabin 28 too and it seems different but the same almost. So maybe the director was just using real life crimes that really did happen. Oh and the voice of the lady in the beginning, calling 911 that wasnt Liv Tyler’s voice, I wonder if it was a real call from whomever this really happened to or did they just fake it to make the movie seem more real?
Ok look u guys are going about this the wrong way…
Don’t ask other pile info and compare its the only way you will get the stuff right… I mean god damn act like yall got some god damn sense I mean… all I got is on the cabin murders and im still collecting
Cos ur home , and your be next if ur home. Dieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Some of you have made me laugh, I was surprised to see the douche bag as Its been used a lot lately at my work, made me crack up.
ok saw the film last night and it was pretty scary, agree with the pantry part being really scary and agree with it being a little drawn out. I also though there were some moments in it that were quite funny, which was good as it brought you back from the fear but I think it also made created a lapse in the escapsim feature of films.
I would love to know more about it!
I agree that if the guy was there would he not have been approached before the film was made, along with the girl whos sister it was….if true then im very sorry…..if not true your somewhat sick.
I dont think the girls voice can really be that of the tru victim due to privacy laws etc.
However I think the fil has certainly served it spurpose as its got us all talking about it which is what its designed too. If anyones got more on it, would like to hear it.
Wasn’t The voice on the phone one of the kids who found them?
What a load of fucking bollocks.
‘According to production notes, the film was inspired by an event from director Bryan Bertino’s childhood: a stranger came to his home asking for someone who was not there, and Bertino later found out that empty homes in the neighborhood had been broken into that night. In interviews, Bertino stated he was “very impressed” with some of the theories circulating on the Internet about the “true events” the movie is allegedly based on, but said his main inspiration was Helter Skelter, a true crime book about the 1969 Manson family murders.’
So nerrr.
ok. i saw the movie during the summer wit my cousins and i almost shit my pants. we looked up the murder when we got home and we still havent found anything. what we reallyw anna know is about the phone call. in the beginning. who was that? everyone was dead and it couldnt have been the boys
the manson muders did happen just google it also it you want further proof there are people sick enough to put pictures of the crime scene and the bodies on internet. But unless you want night mares or to be permanently scarred i woulnd’t look.
Woah.
I’m really surprised a 90% of the people commenting on this blog were almost eye-witesses to the murders. Come on, people. No, really, come on.
I did think it was loosely inspired on the manson murders - very loosely. But im just sick of horror films using this little “based on a true story” to sell more. That other movie “Hostel” did the same — only even Tarantino admited later that it wasn’t really true.
Ps. and if you all know the story because you were there… how come you’re writting at this blog instead of having sold the story to hollywood before… Haha.
Okay, who ever you are, YOUR STUPID! Dumb cunt!
|Darienne|Disaster|
dumb cunt
That last comment was horrible, i don’t know who you are but I bet you wouldn’t be brave enough to say that to anyones face. I know if anybody called me that I kick them in the balls, then we’d see who felt dumb!
to be honest everyone,
i watched the film today and thought it was very unrealistic
the murders did not happen like that at all
there were about 5 of them and i killed them with a sword not a knife
i think the director should get his facts right
i am looking forward to see if any of my other murders will be made into films
yours faithfully
Kb x
Ummm just for those of you who are wondering who the person in the begging on the phone is. It’s actually one of the mormon boys… listen to it again his name is Jordan he has a high pitched voice so of course your first thought is that of a womans voice. Just thought id throw that out there.
hey f…. stupid people it is all tru but som of it is spiced up do do it better movie and the voice at teh phone in the beginning is one of the boys who found them and it is the real voice of the boys who realy found them in 2005. stupid idiots who doesnt belive in real things…………….because if you would liv here then you would hear it when people are always talking about it here they are still scared….
i like morms story the best … and as interested as i am to find out what “real events” the movie is based on … you guys are going a little nuts with all of these make-believe stories . nice try though
I did a little research on the film and the murders it was loosely based on..the murders of Cabin 28 in CA came up the most in relation to the movie so i assumed that those were the murders it was based on. In the cabin 28 murders there were four people killed, Tina and John (brother and sister) their mother and John’s friend. There were younger children in a back room who were not hurt and survivied. The bodies were discovered by the 14 yr. old sister the next morning who had spent the night at the neighbor’s house. This happened in april 1981 27 years ago. If the strangers was meant to be based off of the cabin 28 murders i can see how but it is very very loosely based.
what happen to the missing sister???
was she ever found
yea. it was found near the house. she was killed a raped. the police never wanted to give this info. because they only found her body. her head was cut off. They never found it.i read this in a website about cabin 28 murder.
I read all your guys notes and believe only 98% of this shit. Come on. you people really think were this stuiped. who ever believed this shit are dump asses. get a life you people.
I saw the moive today cause i rented it and thought it shut. I liked “when a stranger call” and would believe it was based on a true story .that moive wasn’t based on true events.
What video store did you rent it from?
the movie just came out today on video. how the hell did you rent it 2 days ago?
Ok pepole I live CA. Movies over here come out 7days early then other places.I go to a small place next to my house.they get them earlyier than othr movie places. Don’t know how they do it. But when a movie comes out in a tue. They get it on the thru before that date.
FYI d. I could of got it burn dump ass. But I didn’t Couse I don’t do that anymore.
According to production notes,[2] the film was inspired by an event from director Bryan Bertino’s childhood: a stranger came to his home asking for someone who was not there, and Bertino later found out that empty homes in the neighborhood had been broken into that night.[3] In interviews, Bertino stated he was “very impressed” with some of the theories circulating on the Internet about the “true events” the movie is allegedly based on, but said his main inspiration was Helter Skelter, a true crime book about the 1969 Manson family murders.[4][5]
In another interview, Liv Tyler revealed that in Bertino’s original script, “You saw a lot more of the strangers. It was much more of a Manson-esque experience.”
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Strangers
very very typical slasher flick. liv tyler is hot. on scale from 1 to 10 I give luke warm 6. glad i stole it from internet and not paid to see it at theatre.
Haha. Sorry, hardass.
out of all you STUPID “i hope i spelled or spelt it right” people i think i am the dumbest one of all for sitting and reading this shit from top to bottom. if you guys take a minute and read this all you get is the same shit over and over…first its true then its not and then there’s people still “resurching” WTF are you still looking for? the director already told you it was made up
damn! well there it is case closed. have a good night.
P.S. the stuff i read here was good and funny
“very funny…TBS” all that i can gather from all of this is people love a good mystery. f@#k it lets call scooby and the gang and get this solved.Well ladies and gents I guess you just as dumb as me for sitting and reading this mumbo jumbo i just cooked up. hahahaha
oh by the way yeah i just saw the movie annnnnnd!!! yeah i too wanted to find out if this shit was true. so yeah go ahead make your cracks about me.
wow, you’re a bunch of idiots. they were CHRISTIANS
NOOOOT MORMONS!! I’m mormon myself I would know!!
ok i have no clue what actualy happend but the movie is friggin awsome
Ok, I am not sure where everyone else gets there facts, but if you pay attention, the movie said “inspired” not “based” on facts. If you stop and watch the special features, the director himself states that his idea for the movie came from when he was a child and a stranger knocked on his door. He later found out that the empty homes of his neighborhood were broken into that night. Trust me when I say that if a murder this brutal had actually taken place, it would have been all over the news and there would be no question as to its authenticity.
i think it is halarious how blogs start out calm and serious and after about 10 comments it turns into a huge slander fest between everybody. lmao
i wanna smell their feet
i wanna fuck ur smeelly feet
so i still dont know whats the real story behind this movie, it was only like an hour long and for what i payed to rent, it was bullshit, when you say “based on true events” i mean i dont wanna hear 3 ppl murdered and lack of evidence, the masked ppl and “based on true events” was the only thing that got me interested to rent it. a bunch of houses got robbed around the house where the director lived! thats just lame, what the hell was robbed from the house in the movie?
whoever got payed to write and direct these movies is just a lucky dumbass, i was lost in europe with no money for 4 months, ending up in places with ppl drinking other ppl’s blood in metro stations. let me write you a movie! and midnight skin head orgys of czechs violently raping gypsie girls under the charles bridge of prague, and the ppl of crotia taking boznian pregnant women cutting out their fetesis and replacing them with drunk passed out cats and sewing the women back up and when theyd wake up the movement would wake up the cats and theyd claw theyre way out tearing apart the internal organs leading to a slow painful death. theres better stuff out there to make movies about….etc
The movie was actually based on 3 different true events. The directors compiled them into 1 to appeal to more audiences. The director even admitted to this. Oh yea, and he also said that there is a big difference between “based on” and “inspired by”. Inspired in Hollywood means they stretch the story to make it ft their guidlines. Based on means the actual events took place as the film depicts them.
Do you stupid Yanks not know the difference between your and you’re (i.e. you are) for God sake. You should be banned from using the internet until you learn proper English.
p.s. don’t correct other spelling mistakes if you are going to make this basic error.
IDIOTS
hey its me just to let u peole no the friend was not killed by the strangers and the couple was. jordan who called was one of the kids the girl was i guess not died cuase she grabed there hand. and this happend in 2005. and of couse this did happen it says when the movie starts o and this movie was kool!
So what the deal with Clark street in California?? What happened?
you are all retarded
I watched strangers today for the first time and I’ve come to the conclusion that this happened in the year 2012 b.c. in Las Vegas, Nevada. 43,227 afro-americans and 5 robots joined forces with planet weezy (no homo) to fight against the gay forces known as promethius and bob and some chick. After 46 years of whacking off, nearly 99 percent of the afro-deeziacs became extinct. The remaining 1 percent came forth and created the wootang clan. In this newly founded clan that was made up of Barrack Obama, Carlton Banks, Method Man, and the dude that plays Napolean Dynamite, decided that the best way to overcome was to have a dream. Then they wised up and thought that there was nothing to fear but fear itself. Then shroderd the shit out of them. And that my friends is the story of the strangers. By the way michael jackson was the guy in the white mask.
Wow. I have to say that the comments are….interesting. I’m a little disappointed to see that the movie was “inspired” or whatever by an event that took place in the directors childhood, although I’m not in the least bit surprised. Most of really good horror, terror, slasher, etc., flicks are simply “inspired” by true events. Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Silence of the Lambs, The Strangers, even Psycho. They ALL were. The people writing the scripts delved deep into their creative brains and thought, “hmmm, I think I want to make a movie about something scarey and make lots of money with it, so, I’ll put ‘inspired by true events’ and people will think it REALLY happened just as I wrote it”!
Sorry to be the one to disillusion you all. Frankly, I think I would have rather, continued being scared out of my wits. Unfortunately, it was mostly just imaginative minds at work.
Although I know that we have had, and still do have, very sick, sick people out there torturing and killing other humans in unbelievably inventive ways, you have to realize that there is always a creative licence when it comes to books, movies, etc. Ed Gain was the inspiration for Texas Chainsaw Massacres, Silence of the Lambs, and Psycho as well.
To find out that The Strangers was just because of some burglaries in the neighborhood of, then younger, Brian Bertino, is very disappointing to see. People play the “inspired by true events” thing so misleadingly.
I guess I, as well as many others, will just have to remember that, movie are not, in fact, A&E , History, or The Discovery Channel.
sorry meant to say “movie(s) are not” lol but after the spelling on this page, I guess I’m not overly concerned
One final thing. I think it is very sad that obviously so many people find it hilarious to poke and make fun of the fact that there HAVE been people out there that have died in horrific ways. The “I was there, I’m the only survivor, I was the little Jewish/Mormon boy who found them or that was my sister” comments are just vile. I have never been the one to find someone murdered, or been around when it has happened or anything so unfortunate, but I’m sure that the people that it has happened to do not find your sick sense of humor so comical. I did once work with a man who found a very good friend murdered by her ex. He was a very quintessential man, and it hurt me to see the pain in his face when he spoke of it. (Which BTW was almost NEVER.)
And just a little side note: Mormons ARE Christians. I’m agnostic, so there is no favoritism here. I have a brain and know that anyone who believes in Christ, is in fact, a Christian. And Mormons, believe in Christ. Educate yourselves! Geez.
Haha and all you idiots that think wikipedia is a reliable source? wow.
Thais movie was cool and I want to see Liv Tylers tits. Scott Speedman has a nice package and the dollface was cute. I like beans. Remember the spartans! Goodnight and good luck. Always remember, you don’t mess with the Zohan
Its very similar to the movie “Vacancy”////
I thought it would be nice for it to be actually real and based off Real events. I’m sick of movies that say “Based on Real Events or inspired by Real events”. It’s way misleading.
I thought Strangers looked good until i watched it and almost fell Asleep during it. It was so boring to me and my boyfriend.
The only good part in this movie is Liv Tyler..
According to production notes, the film was inspired by an event from director Bryan Bertino’s childhood: a stranger came to his home asking for someone who was not there, and Bertino later found out that empty homes in the neighborhood had been broken into that night. In interviews, Bertino stated he was “very impressed” with some of the theories circulating on the Internet about the “true events” the movie is allegedly based on, but said his main inspiration was Helter Skelter, a true crime book about the 1969 Manson family murders.
In another interview, Liv Tyler revealed that in Bertino’s original script, “You saw a lot more of the strangers. It was much more of a Manson-esque experience.”
TOO MANY REFERENCES TO PAST MOVIES WERE INCORPORATED. BUT APPRECIATED THE SUSPENSE. LOOKED LIKE JASON TURNED IN HIS OLD TIRED HOCKEY MASKED AND TRADED IN FOR BURLAP SACK AND ASKD HIS SISTER AND FRIEND TO JOIN IN. THE OTHER TWO MASKED CHICKS JUST THERE FOR EFFECTS,THEY DID NOT ADD ANYTHING TO THE PLOT FOR ME .
yea im with Tree76, I came into the movie like 5 minutes before the end and was trying to decide if it was one of the halloweens, or one of the friday the 13th movies that I didn’t know about where they got help from random people.
…cookies!
its pretty obvious that theres going to be a second one also, at the end with the truck the man says “it will be easier next time”
Well, at my understanding the director lived near the cabin and so he was a witness to this incedent. He knew the whole plot and it’s said that the robbers weren’t looking to kill anyone, they were robbing houses with noone in them. But the unfortunate victims were in their house when the robbers were going through.
It’s definitely mostly based on the Mason family murders. i read about their murders and how it all started and in testimony they had talked about how after the first main murders, the 2nd one manson actually went in himself and tied them up to show how things should have been done in the first one. i’m assuming that’s what “it will be easier next time” was referencing. “the strangers” movie was pretty mediocre for a horror film..the only real scary thing was the thought that things like that actually happen and could happen to you. honestly, is a sequel really necessary?!
ok i just want to comment on the guy that said tinas body was found near the house raped and decapitated. she was found 50 miles away in late 80’s or 90’s so i highly doubt evidence of rape was present. As for cabin 28 I believe marty and bo got high killed the family and took the child and yes I believe rape was their motive all along. As for strangers….not bad movie bit drawn out but overall good but only based on true events not true story…sorry
Oh and sorry the voice is the boys at the beginnning listen to what he says. he just walked in the house he sees blood everywhere and doesnt know where he is. What bothers me is that the phone works now….or is it his cell phone?
IM NOT JEWISH!
great movie btw
BARACK OBAMA O8!
The movie was very suspenceful and we really enjoyed it. In the middle of it I told my daughter that it reminded me of what it must have been like for the poor people murdered by the Manson family.

No everyone else is wrong. This movie is really true. It happened a few years back, back in my home town. I was one of the Mormon boys that discovered the bodies. I slapped her and told her to shut up so I can ponder the flavor over a little longer. That’s when she got up and the cops were called.
To this day I still deliver pamphlets all over southern california.
the end.
Yeah……and your back passage got a good ravaging (and to this day you still deliver pamphlets all over southern California-for tips.)
Sooo Im actually watching the movie right now and researching the so called “true events” and for all the people on here making up these absolutely crazy stories….your all stupid.seriously. If anyone is going to listen to anybody it should be the person who MADE UP THE STORY! on wikipedia he even says its not based on true events but from someone that came and knocked on his own door to ask if someone, who didnt even live there, was there..end of story!and for people correcting everyones grammar GROW UP this is not English class…its a freaking blog for crying out loud.
This movie was a little scary, but not nearly as scary as the illiteracy of today’s youth.
Who Freak’in cares. Your ALL WRONG! anyway. The boys were Christians not Mormans… Watch it again and read what the phamplet says on it… DUH…
According to Bryan Bertino, director and writer of the film, only one event was actually true to life and that the situation personally happened to him in California. The knock at the door and some woman asking for someone who didn’t live there and all of a sudden that night, all the homes on the block were robbed. He took that element, which to a kid can be startling, and mixxed it with the Manson murders.
I agree with the above comment. I wanted to know about the movie and where it came from so I started reading all the junk listed here and elsewhere. Anywhere from cabin 28 to the manson murders. I agree from all I have researched with the comment above. Partially due to childhood event mixed with Manson. The cabin 28 is more of like a drug related thing gone bad. Listen to what the child in the bedroom said about “believing it was a dream” then “not a dream” when giving his account of what he remembered that night. I dont think it has anything to do with the movie strangers.
They weren’t Mormons!!!!
Mormon boys don’t go on mission until they are 19!
retards.
I thought the movie was pointless. Its something I’ve seen in other movies.Toward the middle of movie I was like is the movie going to have a point where it gives ya a idea whats going on.Besides running in,and out of a house, and hiding.I mean the girl is a dumb ass,you would think she would call 911 after the person coming back for the second time.Being out there all by your self not knowing when your man is coming back.I would be scared shitless, and call 911 not sit there, and wait, and poking your head around windows or standing by the door. And I would be looking for a gun or something after calling 911,and setting traps. And The Most Fucked Up Thing Of It All Is That It Had No Catch,And You Never Got To See Their Faces.I’ve seen better movies then this and this is not one of them.Oh And The Guy Who Made The Movie That Took A Bit From His Childhood Put In A Movie Boring Story And Dumb.Ture Story My Ass And When I Mean Ass It Really Did Come From Your Ass.
Honestly. It’s just a movie. I think you are all full of shit, those of you who “were there” and the one who apparently killed 5 with a sword. IF THAT WERE TRUE THEN YOU WOULDN’T BE SITTING ON A COMPUTER TYPING YOUR CONFESSION. SOMEONE WOULD GET SMART AND trace YOUR SORRY ASS. THEN IT WOULDN’T BE A JOKE, NOW WOULD IT?
Im sorry for the terrible things I did.
On the morning of April 12, Sheila Sharp came back at her cabin at around 9 a.m. The cabin where she was the night before was not even 15 feet away from her own.
She walked in the front door as she usually did not knowing what had happened. What she was going to see probably still traumatizes her to this day. Directly inside she saw her brother John Sharp and his friend Dana Wingate. Both were bound hand and foot, stabbed and hammered to death. There was blood on every inch of the cabin. The walls had cuts on them and the furniture was busted open. She looked around and then saw on the blood soaked couch, her mother lying there. She was also killed the same way. What is strange though is that here two younger brothers and a friend of theirs were found in the back bedroom untouched. However, that was not it since her little sister Tina was missing.
On April 11 1981, at the Keddie resort three horrible murders were committed in Cabin 28. Glenna Sharp, 36, her 15-year-old son John and 17-year-old family friend Dana Wingate were bludgeoned and stabbed by assailants still unidentified. Sharp’s 13-year-old daughter Tina was missing from the scene when 14-year-old Sheila Sharp discovered the bodies the following morning. Sheila had been spending the night with a friend. Glenna Sharp’s two youngest boys and another boy, toddlers at the time, had been spared and were found safe in another room of the cabin. Ultimately, Tina Sharp’s remains were discovered 3 years later when a bottle digger found parts of her remains 95 miles away near a waterfall.
Since the cabins were all, so close together it would be pretty much impossible that no noise was made that night. However, no one seemed to hear anything that night. In the years following the murders, the Keddie Resort fell into disrepair and most buildings were condemned. Many around the area talked of the cabin being haunted. To this day, the case remains unsolved.
Over the next decade or so, it rotted into a refuge for squatters and hobos, and the county condemned most of the buildings. However, in the past few years long-time owner Gary Mollath has gone on a furious restoration campaign that has the old resort looking pretty much as it did in 1981 — sans people.
He rented out a couple of the best cabins, and says he hopes to rehab the rest enough to reopen in a year.
First there is Cabin #28 — dubbed “The Murder House” by locals — to contend with.
The condemned building’s yellow-and-white paint is flaking, doors are nailed shut and most windows are covered with plywood. Bums and kids have often broken in for kicks, but by several accounts, they all flee in a hurry.
“That house has been such a negative point for so long that I intend to tear it down and put a park there,” Mollath said. “Then I’m going to open this place back up and cater to groups — with people traveling closer to home now, I think the timing will be just right.
“I want people to come and say, “Wow!” when we start up again. Not be scared.”
He did indeed keep his word. In 2004, the famous Cabin 28 was torn down. There is no more cabin there but people all over still wonder what happened that sad night in April.
Hey yvette,
Actually both ways are correct, so shutty uppy!
“BTW: when someone mispells a word the correct grammar is ’spelt & not spelled’.” - yvette
People get murdered every day, worse than this, so….. who cares. The movie sucked, and if there are such killers out there, they are cowards. I would kick the shit out of them
Hate to tell you all the beginning of the movie says it all. It happened in April of 2005 to TWO (2) people.
Yea its based on the mansion murders also…
Baby Cakes “Hate to tell you all the beginning of the movie says it all. It happened in April of 2005 to TWO (2) people.”
Do you always believe EVERYTHING the media tells you? seriously grow up.
For everyone who says wikipedia says it isnt true… well ANYONE can edit wikipedia. Thats right, you yourself, could go onto that website and edit it. We learned this in our world cultures class while doind a report. We werent aloud to use wikipedia because of this. So therefore, thats not really a site to trust.
Also the movie says based on true EVENTS not the whole movie is true. Just certain events.
i can’t believe i wasted my time reading everything on this blog, and now i’m writing on it. i tried to find out info on whether or not the events were true or not, and i read this. get a life people…
This movie was drawn out and had zero believability. Why was Liv and Scott so friggin mellow while being stalked? Very Lame! Wasted 30 bucks on the blu ray.
hey, well they made up the whole part about how it happened in 2005 it really did happen sometime in the 80’s some of the events are true but not all just setting some of the stuff said straight(:
yeah, yeah, the story did take place. First of all they all had a big satanic orgy and they were all drunk of satan piss. Then they all ended up killing each other after they all had a cosmic orgy.
I just saw the movie I liked it. One dumb part was when the guy said “stay here and I go radio for help” I would have slaped the shit out of him for that comment. Yeah I’ll stay here with the ax murderer while you take the gun and leave, good one.
I have just watched the movie well…actually watchin it right now and the beginning credits state that it was inspired by true events. so something happened but maybe not the way in the movie. Its pretty freaky but why would they lie and say its true when its not. they always tell you if its based on events or not. but some people are just dumb.
Okay, people stop calling people stupid they are doing it on purpose now. The movie was based off events he took his event that happened when he was a child and made a movie out of it by spicing it up with other murder stories that would fit in the movie. Stop calling people stupid there doing it to be funny.
Hahaha, the quote below is classic “your stuiped.” That is one of the funniest most ironic things I’ve seen.
i eat buffalo shit
The real scary thing is that while none of what happened in the movie actually happened, shit like this actually does really happen to people in real life. i.e. getting tied up and tortured, and eventually killed.
It’s pretty sad that as a species this is the type of shit that intrigues us (not saying i’m not guilty of it too). Why do we want this to be true? Why do we want to know so bad?
Maybe because it makes us feel something, anythign…If only they made more movies that made us feel good, instead of terrified.
Just want to thank you all for giving me such a great laugh. Allow me to first thank the little Mormon boy, aka, Big Pimpin’ for sharing his harrowing ordeal, and of course I cant forget the the multitude of relatives of every murdered man and woman between the ages of 20 and 35 residing in and around the western United States, that dropped by to spread layers of fiction upon poorly written fiction.
The movie was horrible, and by that I mean not even worth a few bucks on Pay Per View. I came online as I was thinking this was some murder-suicide that Hollywood embellished to sell tickets and wanted to read more.
Two thumbs down.
Hmmm…. since this appears to be the den of gullabilitiy and story-telling…..Im the ghost of Roger Ebert.
this movie is completely false. there has never been any victims by the names of those in the film. this film was fabricated on a minimal budget to make maximum profit, because you see, horror films traditionally do very well on tight budgets.
credit to liv tyler for tossing her hat in this genre, but i imagine it was more like summer camp for her considering her repertoire.
scott speedman makes a totally great straight guy, if there is one perosn i love to see get mauled it’s scott speedman. he was also great as the werewolf hybrid in that other movie with kate beckinsale.
it’s not like this film requires alot of reach as far as acting goes. i thought the ploy of masked trio of killers is time honored but definitely not cutting edge or avante garde or anything. this movie did not even follow the traditonal dramatic arc of film, which is why most people watching didn’t understand the way that the film ended in such an abrupt and off-balanced way.
seriously, this film was depressing to watch only because there is so much potential here to be wasted in some very familiar sound effects and cheesy masked axe-wielding heavy breathing killers. wah wah wah, i give this three cheesy cheers of disappointment.
but still kudos to liv tyler for her taking the chance. overall proves you don’t need skillz to make the billz in filmbiz.
okay everyone listen, according to the directors interview he does say somebody came to his house and asked for someone who wasn’t there and then empty homes were ravaged but, truth has it in 1869 in denmark, europe a family of four came home from who knows where. The oldest son left to go to his on home not to far away, and then late into the night the mother and father were still awake while the younger son was sleeping. A knock came to the door and to their suprise there was a letter claiming that it was “their time to leave” they thought nothing of it until another knock, and this time the letter claimed”this time is now”, all family members in the home were murder with blood everywhere. Each family member was killed differently. One by axe another by stabbing and last last was the younger son(16) found in the crop field with what seem to police to be him running, he was strangled. In the end of it all eldest brother came to the family home to pick up the family to go to church. He found the family member and alerted the police. At the funeral for the family an unknown person came to “show the sorrow” and mermerred “he was only supposed to get hurt”. They never caught the murderer. The police think it was the neighbor that acted out the crime in want of his land but it was highly unlikely because police report(didnt even know they exsisted back then) said he was too old.
This movie was lame, I’d rather watch the strangers.
This movie is the opposite of a romantic comedy. Pretty cool actually, no romance, infact, the opposite of romance….a break up, and absolutely scary as hell! cool movie.
Ok… Regardless of if the movie was based on real events or not, it was so godamned frustrating. And oh so painful to watch. This is my thing. Weird girl comes to my door asking for Tammy, my girl says she’s out of smokes and it’s 4 O’clock in morning. I’m telling her tough luck, wait till the morning. There is a weird girl outside, it can wait. That right there would be a red flag for me.
2nd thing. If I’m The guy/James, who’s coming home from the store now with the cigs that my girl had to have. And I’m getting a phone call that the girl came back to the house asking for Tammy a 2nd time. I’m probably hanging up the phone, and calling 911 to have some authorities come do a drive by and scope the scene while I get there and pick up my chick to hightail it out of there.
3rd.. Ok. you come back home, but you don’t leave the cell phone in the car.. C’mon. Common sense would tell you that something shady is happening and you need to have it with you incase shit goes down. Also I would have headed straight for the weapons first thing I got home and barricaded myself with my back against the wall, as they did. Friend finally makes it there, get’s head blown off. Ok, too bad so sad. Why wasn’t he calling out for his homie? That’s his bad, and now the wall is painted red because he’s a fucking idiot??? Any one else want to get up off the couch and punch a wall??? Any way. So you blasted you’re friend. You’ve got bigger issues to deal with now. Stay there and safe. If someone else comes through the door. Take em’ out. pick em’ off 1 by 1.
Lastly. He has the only weapon at this point. He gets the big idea of, “oh.. there is an old radio in the barn, I’ll go and try to access it”. And leave you’re girl behind. Defenseless. What a friggen idiot. You just knew by splitting up, crazy shit was going to happen. How they, or he thought that, that would be a good idea. Just plain stupid. But I’m blaming the director for such a poorly thought out movie from beginning to end. It wasn’t as thrilling as much as it was frustrating to watch. Anyone else agree???
… I love how everyone is an expert on what happened that night.
It sounds like there are a lot of “stories” that this movie could be based on. Let’s just face it. There are people sick enough out there to do these types of thing and that’s what’s so scary.
Hi, I am Brandon, the owner of this site.

Widow testifies in Clark County home invasion murder trial
Posted by The Oregonian January 15, 2008 17:35PM
The masked man with an assault rifle was silhouetted against a light as he stood over Laura A. Harrington and her husband, and details about him were difficult to see, Harrington testified today in Clark County Superior Court.
She could not identify the man, Harrington told the jury on the second day of Adrian E. Rekdahl’s murder trial. Rekdahl, 35, of Gresham is the last of four men charged in the 2005 home invasion that left Robert D. Harrington, 54, dead and the couple’s lifelong friend, Gerald B. Newman, shot and beaten.
Laura Harrington had tripped down the back stairs of Newman’s home, trying to escape the three armed men who at about 11:30 p.m., burst in on the Vancouver couple’s Aug. 6, 2005, visit with Newman, she said. Her husband did not let go of her arm as they ran, even when she fell twice, she said.
Robert Harrington begged the man not to shoot them, she said. They had children and grandchildren, Harrington told the man at the top of the stairs. A ski mask covering his face, the man never answered the plea, Laura Harrington said.
So the couple scrambled to their feet and Robert told his wife to run, she said. She was in front of him.
Only when she heard the first shot did Robert Harrington let go of her arm, Laura Harrington said. He pushed her slightly and said, “Oh my god,” Harrington told the jury of five women and seven men.
When she reached a hedge, she heard four or five more shots, Harrington said. She dropped to the ground and maneuvered under the hedge, hoping the darkness and shrubbery would hide her. She crawled to a neighbor’s flower bed and lay still, she said. She could hear the man running the gun barrel through the hedge, looking for her. She wondered, she said, “if it would hurt when he shot me.”
Then she heard voices, three car doors slam and a vehicle drive off, Harrington testified. The neighbors let her in. They had already called 9-1-1.
Robert Harrington was shot six times and died in Newman’s Old Evergreen Highway yard.
Newman took the stand after Harrington today.
He was hospitalized for 3½ weeks after the shooting, he said. Steel rods were placed in his left leg to rebuild the femur shattered when he was shot in the hip, he said.
He had approached the gunmen in his home’s foyer and told them to get out, he said. One shot him and two beat him in the head with their guns. He now walks with a limp and has pain in his leg. He bears a round burn mark on his left temple where the man who shot him also hit him with the hot gun barrel, he said.
Newman has not even addressed the psychological problems he has as a result of the attack, he said.
Like Harrington, he said he could not identify his attackers.
No forensic or DNA evidence links Rekdahl to the home invasion and murder or the getaway vehicle, a white Chevrolet Tahoe, said Michael R. Foister, Rekdahl’s attorney, during his opening statement.
There is compelling evidence that the three others — Jason Z. Balaski, Daniel C. Johnson and M. Darrin Odell — convicted of murder, attempted murder and burglary in 2006 were involved, Foister said.
Even the Clark County Sheriff’s deputy who stopped the Tahoe about 50 minutes after the shooting cannot say it was Rekdahl who ran from the vehicle and eluded capture along with the other three, he said.
Balaski, 35, is serving an 86 year prison sentence. Johnson, 36, and Odell, 42, were each sentenced to 65 years.

um all of yall are stupid who gives a shit if it is true or not
Watch the earlier French version entitled THEM. Totally different as to the killers and motive.
TO YVETTE:
The correct spelling of the word IS “spelled” NOT “spellt” or “spelt.”
So if you are going to criticize another person’s spelling…make sure you know what you are talking about.
Thanks
ok just so every one knows wikipedia is FAKE dont beleive the shit from there.. people can edit wikipedia
that would be why collage students can not use it as a sourse on papers
its true. jan. 11 2005 and today they still dont know who it is
ctrrr
so for starters, the girls voice on the 911 call is NOT one of the mormon boys, if you look on IMDB the person for that voice is different from mormon boy 1 and mormon boy 2. also, for the brit who had a problem with the person using spelled, while spelt is also correct, spelled is actually an accepted spelling in the US so get over yourself wanker.
Hello, this is Ren. Actually, this kind of crime happens all the time.
Around 3 in the morning someone banged on my door continuously for about 7 minutes. I looked through the peep hole and it was a really big guy asking for a “Jim”. He was trying to pressure me into opening the door. I told him very loudly to go away. He asked me if I knew James and if I was pretending James wasn’t there. The guy was tensed up and probably ready to assault me.
This is why you should get a gun and go to the firing range.
movie isn’t true guys.. quit depending on the internet for true information.. lol
oh, and stop correcting people’s spelling.. its completely lame. Everyone on the internet does the same thing as if they’re trying to make someone feel stupid.. Get a life guys!
okay in the cabin 28 story, they say that there were 2 younger brothers in teh back room….didnt htey see anyhting? cant they help at all with that murder? i mean come on, two boys dont htink its cool to be around danger and blood and what not. im not trying to be funny really, im not its just weird. i think they had something to do with it. why wouldnt you kill the little boys first, you know they would have said something, and to have there mother watch it, that would have been teh icing on top of the cake…just saying. i dont know who to bleieve on this bcz there are so many stories, but i do believe that “The Strangers” is not scary, infact i laughed the whole time. once again, not to be funny or anything, no offense. it just wasnt what i thought it would be.
but i do believe that this movie is fake. i bleieve that it wasnt based on anything. and for the wh ole cabin 28, dont care. whoever did it was a mastermind, and it still out there today, props. im sorry for the victims really am. but those stupid 2 brothers that lived piss me off, they obvoiusly know something n just aint sayin it. and as for the girl that vanished, abra cadrabra, poof! shes gone like that without those boys knowing…..its just fishy…
Is Resident Evil based on a true story?!
All your comments r gr8 but wat i think is this story true or not…. we should respect the people killed that very day. Not lie about it or taunt about it. I do not believe that any of u r the killer or the little boys or someone that survived that day, because i doubt u would be talking on this site. u would be tryin to make a knew life…. well probably
the voice on the 911 call is one of the mormon boys. re play the movie again smart ass
“yeah, maybe not the true story at all, it happened in 2004, and it was only 2 people, sooo yeah your stuiped”
wow your stupid lol
Ok, most of you guys don’t even know what happened that night, nobody EVER said that the things that happened in the movie were real, they were just making a story to go along with what evidence they had. People need to stop correcting other people on their grammar and spelling. (I had to go over this 5 times so some douche wouldnt go after me for spelling something wrong…)
hey,
On wikipedia now it says that the movie was based on events from the producers childhood but during the production of the movie it actually said that the movie was based on the murders of a young couple and that the families had removed as many traces of the tradgedy from the internet as possible as to not bring it up again when the movie was released.
At this time there were other sites stating this same story. Ive gone too look up again tonight and all of these stories have dissapeared. I am thinking the families have gotten involved again.
It is very odd to see wikipedia has a completely different story than it previously did as I read the entire section before the movie came out and was quite distressed by these murders and what the family must have been going through.
To pedantic twats: resist correction of others’ grammar until you can learn to spell and write correctly yourselves.
I can’t believe I sat here and read any of this. I’m sure the movie is based only loosely on any ‘true events’, as some have said, taking influence from the ‘many violent crimes to occur in America’- twee, really.
Perhaps aspects of some specific events are woven into the plot.
Seriously, it is just a film, and it’s JUST grammar.
Find something else to do with your time?
I think the events are inspired by the Charles Manson Murders over 30 years ago.
Okayyyy,
Everyone you all eat horse shitt.
Okayy, this movie suckedd ass.
Like my moms big harryy balls(:
It was so lame,
my mom brought home this movie

oh p.s i love you all!!! jus as much as i love guys on my dick.
On April 11th, 1981, in a small resort cabin nestled in the Hills of northern California, a triple murder took place so horrific it still haunts the area to this day.
That morning around 9:00a.m., Sheila Sharp, who had stayed the night at a neighbor’s house not more than 15 feet away, walked through her front door, not knowing what she was about to see would change her life forever. Directly inside, on the floor, were her 16 year old brother, John Sharp, and his 17 year old friend, Dana Wingate. Both were bound hand and foot, stabbed, and hammered to death. There was blood on every surface of the cabin. On the blood-soaked couch was her mother, Sue Sharp, also murdered in the same brutal fashion. Amazingly, her 2 younger brothers and a friend were in a back bedroom, untouched. However, her younger sister, Tina, was missing.
The walls had cuts on them, the furniture was busted up, and the victims were beaten. However, no one seemed to hear anything that night. The case quickly grew cold, and rumors of the town being haunted hurt the community so deeply it eventually became a ghost town, with only a hand full of residence living there today.
To this day, the case remains unsolved.
This site is dedicated to helping the living victims of these crimes get closure, and bring a cold-hearted killer to justice. There are many leads and suspects still out there.
Please join our message board and help in the solving of this crime.
Its also said that the man and two women are supposed to be copies of the Manson Murders
Okay. I have to confess. I was there that fateful night. I was in the woods along the perimeter of the house. I was video-taping the entire event. I know, I know, I should have called the cops but I’m a journalist first..good citizen second. So if you would like a copy of the actual events that took place I’ll be accepting donations
guess what idiots, anyone can write anything on Wikipedia, there is no way to ever tell if anything written on there is true. i could make up my own story and go write it now, and you would believe it.
oh and don’t call people names when you can’t even spell it right. s-t-u-p-i-d.
you silly hamptons. THE LOT OF YA!!! Why the hell are you all writing paragraphs about SHIT .. and squabbling like little pussys.GO GET A FUCKING JOB, YOU NISHTY DISHES……
IN A BIT. FO SHO!
you people suck
is Tamara here?
Ok i beleive that it was based on a true story but heres the thing: It’s based on 3 occurences!!!!! :-p!!!!!
I would like to add…I agree with the people who did their research by identifying the differnce between “inspired by” and “based on a true story”.To me that is very impressive and you are a true critic!I believe that people who watch horror movies either use it in a negative way or positive! The director took few true events related to him and used inspiration from other sources to create this horror movie. When these movies hit the theaters, some people fall victim to go see it making alot money for the director not knowing half the time the difference between “inspired” or “based on”.
it is not even a good movie so why all the talk about it?
Sorry I can’t give you any insite to the movie but does anyone know where to get the masks as me and two of my bitches are off to a “The Strangers” theme night. If your interested just leave your addresses on this wecsite and we’ll be sure to drop you a personal invitation, Oh yeh if anyone knows a couple of mormans then they can come too.
Cheers sleep tight.
And another thing, not everyone who calls at your door at 4 in the morning is potentially dangerous. I had this huge guy turn up a my place one night who looked like he was all jacked up on ice and shit man so I sent my gran out who, “luckily” was staying with me at the time “thank God” I hear you all think and well basically the guy was just looking some sugar. A weird time to call for sugar but some dudes just have weird sleeping patterns, get used to it.
the movie is SO NO TRUE!!!!!!!
don’t even worry about anything that is in that movie.
this is a creepy movie i checked a web site they said the movie was not entirely true they said two people were the murders not three aman and a woman
this is a lie people its a joke sure it may be true but the people who made this movie must like changing things that may be to horrific for teens to see if you want to make a movie of true events use real info not that stuff u see on google some one on this web site claim they were the survivor of this mascre well i would like to talk to her face to face to ask these people why they lie so much to get peoples attention im a ten year old boy yeah i used to lie but not about this stuff their is some one on this web site i agree with her name is candy cane
you guys are weird
There’s a LOT of professional assholes online……
I wonder hoe many of you are this bad-ass in real life?
Pretentious grammar police that assume everyone that mistypes is a “yank”– when some people could possibly NOT have English as their first language…
Sick people that make fun of grizzly murders, that may not be real as far as Hollywood creates them, but STILL. PEOPLE murdered or tortured in any form is not something you laugh at. Get your head checked.
BTW: It’s a movie for entertainment purposes only.
As its been said, like 10X–it was a script strung together by 2-3 independent events.
IE: “Silence of the Lambs”, “Psycho” and “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” were *ALL* based on ONE case file, and apparently the only one remotely close to the original murder case (Ed Gaines) is SURPRISE, Silence of the Lambs and Psycho. TCM was rediculously far from the original crime file.
So ey-yeah, Hollywood stretches the truth a bit for $$$.
And they’re making a sequel! Yikes
soo the funniest post here was what “morms” said.. funniest thing on here for sure.. and candy… it wasnt ur sister.. and i think its possible the movie could have been real.. who cares was good though
