Tourney Time

I love this time of year. The air just smells better. And the NCAA Tournament is in full swing. For the first time ever, I had the opportunity to watch an NCAA Tournament game this weekend. The Sweet 16/Elite 8 was in Atlanta, and Bird and I had tickets for the whole shin dig. Following are my thoughts on the weekend:
Duke VS LSU: JJ Redick is the all time leading scorer in ACC history. He is very likely the greatest shooter anyone reading this blog will ever see in their lifetime. He averaged better than 27 ppg this season. I show up for a tournament game to watch him drill lowly LSU, and he gets checked all night. Shut down. 11 points. Duke loses and my bracket crumbles.
West Virginia VS Texas: Pittsnoggle. That’s the guy’s name. Pittsnoggle. He’s a 6′11″ Senior from West Virgina that specializes in drilling 3s and crushing dreams. Texas. Probably a little overrated as a 2 seed. The stage is set for a West Virginia upset. They rally from behind to tie the game with 5 seconds to go. Pittsnoggle came off a screen and hit a fallaway 3 with a hand in his grill to lock the score. Without taking a timeout, Texas pushes down the court and Paulino hits a buzzerbeater to break my heart.
LSU VS Texas: Big Baby is great, but Tyrus Thomas may be the most exciting college basketball player in the country. He caught 4 alley-oops in the FIRST HALF, not to mention a nasty, one-handed rim-rocker that he brought down off a missed shot.LSU wins and Bird hates ‘em for it. The Georgia Dome was rocking because it was filled to the brim with LSU fans. The chants of L-S-U literally caused my head to pound.
In other action: Adam Morrison is the biggest wuss in America. Crying before the end of the game? When you still have a chance to win? UCONN had to get help from the refs via a blown goal-tending call by Hilton Armstrong to beat Washington. And does anyone else find it odd that they shot 43 free throws? There’s something wrong with that picture. I will literally pray that George Mason beats them today.
